Injectable Moisturisers

Super-hydration and a regenerative kick-off for next-level luminosity

Increasingly rich in regenerative properties, new wave Injectable Moisturisers dispense water-capturing hyaluronic acid or polynucleotides direct to the heart of where a boost is needed most – delivering deep hydration and repair (including the combatting of crepey skin) plus amazing new levels of luminosity in one smooth swoop.

Dr Sarah Tonks says...

“Injectable Moisturisers are an ultra-functional treatment. They don’t just harness deep hydration, they also provide extremely satisfying overall skin improvements. My pro tip? Switch up your treatments to get the biggest benefits, alternating between those anchored in hyaluronic acid and those grounded in polynucleotides.”

What is it and how does it work?

Small amounts of polynucleotides or, more commonly, hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance found in the body which attracts water molecules – are dispersed just below the surface of the skin via small injections, or more deeply for a greater lifting effect.

Aside from taking hydration directly to the spot that needs satisfying, the therapy delivers extra ‘oomph’ by rebuilding collagen and elastin, which are regularly depleted by age or everyday environmental factors. The injections also change the way in which light refracts upon the skin, cultivating a more even complexion. The result is glowing skin that looks almost ‘doughnut-glazed’ – bouncier and dewier, but without any change in the shape, volume or muscle movement. It will also feel instantly better.

Originally only considered to be super-hydrators, some (like Profhilo®)and Profhilo®Structura)  have now been revealed to offer additional regenerative properties, or even boost the efficacy of other treatments (like Nucleofill).

At TLC we use several key types of Injectable Moisturiser:

Profhilo®:

Ideal for use on the face (including the forehead and around the eyes), neck, décolleté, abdomen, thighs or bingo wings (for the latter, TLC uses the unique Profhilo® Body formula), Profhilo’s ‘pure’ hyaluronic composition uses proprietary technology whereby an electrostatic charge creates a more loosely assembled, non-cross-linked molecular structure.

We also use the newer Profhilo®  Structura a unique product for the replenishment of fat lost during the process of ageing.

Profhilo’s regenerative capabilities can exceed that of many other brands thanks to its unique composition (chain links) of hyaluronic acid, which has an outsized impact on collagen stimulation. Compounding its super-powers, new injection techniques also mean that when it’s deposited onto the bone near specific ligaments, it can provide a generous lifting effect plus a slowing of the ‘bone turnover’ (when bone structure begins to deteriorate).

We recommend two to three treatments delivered one month apart, repeated every three to six months.

Teosyal ® Redensity 1:

This award-winning product, which can be used anywhere on the body, is especially good on the delicate eye area, and uses non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid containing amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins (a combination ripe for optimising DNA synthesis and stimulating collagen production) to promote its skin restructuring magic.

This injectable typically involves three initial sessions delivered a month apart with follow-ups every three to six months.

Sunekos:

Sunekos is another non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid containing amino acids designed to stimulate Extracellular Matrix (ECM) regeneration, which has several iterations, including Sunekos Performa, used at TLC specifically to treat crepey skin around the eye, Sunekos 1200 for the lower face, and Sunekos Body for stretch marks and loose skin on the body. Additionally, we use Sunekos Cell to treat cellulite.

We recommend four treatment sessions, two weeks apart, then another every three to six months.

Belotero® Revive:

Excellent at treating discolouration (including that caused by sun exposure), fine lines and textural irregularities, as well as reducing redness and promoting brighter, firmer skin, its ‘lightly cross-linked’ hyaluronic acid (it also contains humectant glycerol) means it draws more water into the skin.

Something of a star treatment, Belotero® Revive can increase skin firmness, softness and hydration by up to six, seven and nine months respectively, while decreasing pigmentation issues for as long as nine months.

We normally recommend one treatment every two to four weeks, ideally three times.

Nucleofill:

Nucleofill is superb for patients keen to try something different to hyaluronic acid, with its hyper-nourishing, tissue-fortifying properties – a polynucleotide-based gel rather than a hyaluronic acid-deploying substance (polynucleotides are essentially the building blocks of human DNA, so fundamental to restoring cellular function), which forms a kind of reservoir of these essential elements within the skin.

It comes in three varieties – soft for the eyes; medium for thinner skin (such as crepey skin on the neck); and strong for treating more robust skin types (including having a reparative effect on stretch marks). Its reputation as a free-radical scavenger is well-earned – it’s an antioxidant that can help to protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules that can cause damage to other cells).

Seventy Hyal 2000:

Gives a fantastic immediate hydration boost which is perfect if your skin is feeling parched. Its also very anti-inflammatory and we have seen some great results even with conditions such as keratosis pilaris.

We advise three treatment sessions a month apart and then another every three to six months.

Which body parts is it designed for?

Injectable Moisturisers are most commonly used to pep up a tired complexion, but are also suitable for use on the neck, elbows, knees, décolletage, arms, abdomen and hands.

Who is it primarily good for?

Anyone aged 18+. See above for the specific benefits of the individual treatments.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

All Injectable Moisturisers generally last around six months, but many patients like to return after three months to maintain the effects of their initial treatment for the absolute best results.

Please note that all treatment responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient.

What other treatments does it work well with?

What else should I know?

While Injectable Moisturisers are renowned for their fast-acting prowess and lack of downtime, some may cause slight bruising and swelling. However, these side effects usually subside within a few days.

Please note that the polynucleotide products such as Nucleofill are not suitable for people with fish allergies.

FAQS

Here are a few final things that you might like to know before taking things forward. If you have any other questions we haven’t thought of yet, no problem! Please email us at hello@thelovelyclinic.co.uk and one of the team will get back to you as quickly as they possibly can.

Does it hurt?

Because our Injectable Moisturiser treatments are a relatively swift procedure, patients can expect no more than a quick jabbing sensation. Some patients feel a light stinging sensation with Profhilo® . All patients are welcome to have a topical anaesthetic prior to therapy, should this be a concern.

When does it start to work?

It normally takes a few weeks to see the final effect following the completion of a course of treatment, but some results will be immediately visible, followed by continuous incremental improvements.

What can go wrong?

Injectable Moisturisers can result in some bruising and swelling, which is very normal and dissipates quickly.
