Dr Sarah Tonks says...

“We fully consider a patient’s genetic script within our treatment plans, and we offer alternative active pharmaceutical ingredients with research-based evidence in improving alopecia.”

What is it and how does it work?

Transcending one-size-fits all-treatments, TrichoTest therapy uses genetic testing to analyse an individual’s predisposition to both hereditary conditions and physiological traits – in tandem with expert clinical observation and an assessment of lifestyle factors – to establish the very best treatment plan for success.

The ultra-comprehensive test analyses 16 genetic variations in 13 genes to predict any latent propensity for three core types of hair loss: androgenetic alopecia (diffuse hair loss, including receding hair or a widening centre parting); alopecia areata (an auto-immune disorder triggering coin-shaped patches of baldness) or telogen effluvium (extensive shedding, often as the result of extreme body shock including childbirth).

After an initial clinical assessment, a DNA swab is taken (entirely painlessly) from the inside of the cheek for detailed laboratory analysis. A full report is returned within six weeks, which provides a matrix of insights into the individual’s genotype (genetic make-up). Next, TLC’s doctors translate this to determine the ideal mixture of vitamins, supplements, and other active pharmaceutical ingredients, including, but not limited to, the current gold standard of licensed alopecia medicines in order to optimise hair regrowth.

Here at TLC, to create the ideal cocktail for a specific genotype, we’re able to not only dial up and down the quantities of the most commonly used drugs, but also infuse additional, alternative active ingredients clinically proven to improve alopecia. Products included in the medication may include collagen precursors (the vitamins which play a role in creating collagen, one of the most vital health-giving proteins in the body), vitamin B7 and the amino acid, cystine. Each medication is a custom blend prescription created by one of our premium partner pharmacies to support our highly targeted approach.

For extra potency, the home-use medication is applied by the patient (daily) directly onto the scalp – bypassing the bodily systems that may slow its absorption or circulation if taken orally.

Which body parts is it designed for?

The scalp: TrichoTest is dedicated to remedying hair loss.

Who is it primarily good for?

TrichoTest is suitable for anyone, men or women, over 18-years-old suffering from hair loss who want a more in-depth understanding of their unique genetic disposition to achieve the best results. It’s of particular interest to those with concerns about inherited conditions, for whom other treatments have failed (the in-depth testing ensures you won’t waste time or money on pharmaceutical ingredients irrelevant to your situation) or are suffering age or menopause-related hair loss.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

There’s no downtime attached to this treatment but it does take approximately three to six months after commencing the recommended treatment plan to see true results, with an annual visit factored in for a repeat prescription.

Please note that all responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient, and all treatment plans will be created in tandem with a consultation.

What other treatments does it work well with?

What else should I know?

Because lifestyle factors play a key role in determining the success of the treatment, close monitoring of the impact of the therapy over 6 to 12 months is strongly advised.

Patients will also be required to return annually for a Trichogram (a microscopic examination of scalp hairs to evaluate their condition) for us to provide a new prescription.

FAQS

Here are a few final things that you might like to know before taking things forward. If you have any other questions we haven’t thought of yet, no problem! Please email us at hello@thelovelyclinic.co.uk and one of the team will get back to you as quickly as they possibly can.

WHAT HAPPENS?

You’ll be invited into the clinic for a Trichogram examination and scan (where we put your scalp hairs under the microscope). We’ll also take a DNA sample, which involves gently wiping a soft swab inside your cheek. The swab is sent to our testing laboratory, with a report arriving approximately six weeks later, that enables us to recommend hair loss treatments attuned to your specific genotype (genetic make-up).

WHAT IS THE KEY BENEFIT?

Providing you with a hyper-targeted formula; the in-depth testing means you won’t waste time or money on pharmaceutical ingredients irrelevant to you. It’s worth noting that the testing analyses 16 variations within 13 genes specific to hair loss, which allows us to determine which ingredients (when used within a hair loss formulation) will be the most beneficial for your unique genetic disposition.

DOES IT HURT?

Not at all, TrichoTest is an entirely painless treatment.

WHEN DOES IT START TO WORK?

Because a full cycle of hair growth generally takes several months, it will typically be six months until you see the full benefits of the treatment, based on consistent (daily) use of the prescribed formulation.

WHAT CAN GO WRONG?

Because the success of any treatment is determined by how an individual responds at any given time (lifestyle factors can be as key as a genetic disposition), it is possible that the treatment won’t work for you, or as quickly or extensively as you’d like. However, because this is a treatment crafted around your unique genetic code, our overriding experience is that patients will see improvements within a few months of starting the recommended therapies.
