Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, aka PRP, is a unique and chemical-free treatment that harnesses the body’s natural regenerative prowess to promote localised healing. While the technique has recently been popularised as the ‘vampire facial’, PRP’s benefits extend way beyond the visage.
“PRP is wonderful for people who are anxious about embarking on a treatment, because it’s effectively the innovative assistance of an entirely natural process.”
A superb introduction to non-invasive treatments, thanks to its use of completely natural processes, PRP is a pure regenerative medicine that works directly in symbiosis with an individual’s natural capacity to rebuild, repair and replenish from within.
The process works by running blood through TLC’s state-of-the-art centrifuges, which separate the red cells and the platelets (the elements that cause blood clots and stimulate other necessary growth and healing functions), a concentration of which is then injected back into the skin. As the platelets break open, an automatic by-product of the process, they attract other cells, which aid the nutrient-boosted restorative journey and generate more luminous skin and abundant hair.
One of our key PRP devices, the RegenLab® PRP, is unique in its use of a special thixotropic (fluid thinning) gel to separate the blood components, and boasts an ultra-safe (non-contaminable) closed system. This allows us to deliver PRP in three different formats with extra speed and efficiency: regular PRP; regular PRP combined with non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid for additional hydrating factors; and regular PRP with fibrin clots – insoluble proteins formed in response to bleeding (the key components of a blood clot), which forms a substance that behaves like a dermal filler, but with fully natural components.
We’re also proud to be one of the only clinics to offer the advanced Angel PRP treatment, whereby light is introduced into the centrifuge for extra accuracy in separating the platelets, creating a more potent concentration of the compound.
As valuable in repairing soft tissue sporting injuries and smoothing wrinkles as it is stimulating flowing locks (this treatment specifically remedies hair loss and is used after hair transplantation), PRP is ideal for supporting healthy growth and repair in skin and hair.
Because the RegenLab® PRP device allows us to deliver unique, natural versions of dermal fillers using a patient’s own blood, it’s an ideal solution for delicate zones such as the eye area, where the more typically used hyaluronic acid-based fillers are often considered to be too conspicuous.
Applicable to all adults, PRP presents a superb gateway treatment for those wanting to dip a toe into non-invasive therapies via an entirely natural (non-synthetic) route.
While it’s ideal for preventing of the signs of ageing, because it works in tandem with the body’s own powers of restoration, age but also healthy living can play a role in achieving the very best results.
PRP is a relatively subtle treatment that works best if it can be delivered on a monthly basis, with a suggestion of five to six sessions as a minimum. For Angel PRP, it’s three sessions.
When treating the eye area, downtime is approximately two to three days. For anything else, where therapy is used in conjunction with SkinPen® Micro-needling (an ultra-controlled skin-pricking procedure which generates tiny collagen and elastin-boosting wounds), it will typically be one day.
The side effects of PRP injections tend to be limited, because injections are created from an individual’s own blood, meaning that the body typically embraces the process without a hitch.
Please note that all treatment responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient.
As with other all-natural treatments that don’t require the support of any synthetic products (such as INTRAcel, ULTRAcel and Carboxytherapy), the pure healing properties of PRP mean it can be used in conjunction with any other treatment. However, it’s an especially relevant ‘partner therapy’ to SkinPen® Microneedling – a process where a dermapen pricks the skin to stimulate new collagen and firmer skin tissue; applying PRP boosts the efficacy of the process.

The success of PRP is directly linked to a patient’s 360° approach to health and wellbeing; smokers will experience less impressive results. Similarly, because the treatment draws on the body’s own capacity to naturally rejuvenate itself, younger people will generally see more potent improvements.

Blood is taken in the same way as it is when having a blood test. If the procedure is focused on the hair and involves injections into the scalp, we will sometimes administer a local or topical anaesthetic, but it’s not generally required.
It will take a few months following the completion of a course of treatment to see the full impact, but you can expect to see a small immediate difference, after which there will be continuous incremental improvements.
Some patients may experience some bruising.
