Dr Sarah Tonks says...

“This is a great treatment for the smaller areas when CoolSculpting might not be suitable and is particularly successful treating areas of flaccid fat with oedema, or touch-ups after liposuction.”

What is it and how does it work?

Here at TLC, we use fat-dissolving injections Celluform (and Celluform+ for submental fat, that resides under the chin), which includes an active ingredient of natural origin called deoxycholic acid that causes the fat cells to disassemble. This spurs tissue contraction and a subsequent skin-tightening effect. The body immediately begins to subsume the dismantled cells, with the number of fat cells dwindling naturally within just a few sessions.

One of the key benefits of Celluform/Celluform+ is that aside from the loss of fatty tissue, counteracting flaccidity, it also stimulates tissue contraction – supporting the firming of the space between the muscles and skin to present a subtly contoured, slimmer look.

Which body parts is it designed for?

Because the injections are designed to treat relatively small areas, this therapy is ideal for those looking to improve the skin under their chin, jowls, or other modest pockets of fat, such as the abdomen (for petite patients).

It’s excellent for remedying ‘bingo wings’ (flabby skin under the arms), bra & back fat, and ‘banana roll’ bum bulges.

Who is it primarily good for?

Its proficiency in eradicating very small, localised areas of fat makes this perfectly suited to those who are svelte or at an average body weight, seeking to finesse especially stubborn zones – including those missed during liposuction or too compact to be reached by CoolSculpting®.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

Fat-Dissolving Injectables are capable of permanently destroying fat cells. When combined with healthy dieting and exercise, the effects of this fat removal can last indefinitely.

Multiple sessions (typically two to eight sessions, one per month) are usually needed depending on treatment area, with anticipated downtime generally two to four weeks in total.

Please note that all treatment responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient.

What other treatments does it work well with?

Fat-Dissolving Injectables can work especially well as a complementary treatment to CoolSculpting®.

Other excellent therapies to diminishing fat include ULTRAcel Q+ – a high-intensity ultrasound therapy which, alongside its core focus on tightening and brightening, can also be used to control – but also destroy – areas of fat such as underneath the neck or chin.

What else should I know?

For approximately one week, patients may look slightly larger due to the swelling, but this will swiftly subside to reveal great results.

While multiple sections of the face and body can be treated (a course of two to eight sessions are typically expected), they should all be performed at least a month apart.

Fat Dissolving Injections incur very minimal pain, generally only a short pricking sensation at the initial contact. Patients are more likely to experience a slightly itchy sensation.

When does it start to work?

The effects are visible after a couple of weeks when the swelling has subsided, meaning the full impact of the treatment won’t be entirely apparent for around three to four weeks. You will need a course of treatment for the best results.
