Collagen Depletion
The loss of collagen is a natural and inevitable process that comes with ageing and contributes to changes in the skin’s appearance and texture. Collagen is a protein that is abundant in the dermal layer, providing structural support and elasticity. As you age, its decline leads to a reduction in the skin’s firmness, suppleness and resilience.
External factors such as sun exposure, alcohol consumption and smoking can accelerate collagen breakdown, although everyone will experience a loss of firmness to some extent. Whilst it is impossible to completely halt collagen loss, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and choosing injectable moisturisers, such as GOURI or BELOTERO ® Revive, can reduce its impact and promote overall skin health.
Photodamaged Skin
Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources, such as tanning beds, can result in photodamaged skin. The cumulative effect of the sun’s rays disrupts collagen and elastin fibres and triggers oxidative stress, causing the skin’s structure to deteriorate. In addition to fine lines, photodamaged skin often presents as uneven pigmentation and rough texture, sometimes referred to as sun spots.
The effects of photodamage vary based on genetics, skin type and the degree of UV exposure upon your skin. To mitigate discolouration and loss of elasticity, you should practice sun protection measures, such as wearing sun cream and seeking shade, or treat areas of concern with GOURI.
What Is BELOTERO ® Revive?
Like many Dermal Fillers, BELOTERO ® Revive’s primary ingredient is hyaluronic acid (HA); unlike Dermal Fillers, the product does not add volume when injected into the skin. The HA solution is lightly cross-linked, allowing it to flow within the dermal layer, deeply hydrating and nourishing the skin from within. Resorbable HA effectively treats early signs of photodamage by rehydrating the skin and restoring its natural barriers. After 3 treatments, one study found that patients experienced increased skin firmness for 6 months, improved softness for 7 months and decreased pigmentation for 9 months.
BELOTERO ® Revive also contains glycerol, which is one of the most hydrating molecules in the polyalcohol family. The combination of glycerol with HA has been shown to increase water absorption from the dermis to the stratum corneum, creating a longer-lasting moisturising effect. The injectable stimulates collagen synthesis, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and sagging skin over time. This makes the treatment ideal for ageing skin, particularly if your complexion shows signs of sun damage, such as discoloured or rough areas.
What Is GOURI?
GOURI is the world’s first liquid polycaprolactone (PCL) injectable. The solution is free from microparticles and any other active ingredients, allowing the PCL to evenly distribute within the skin for comprehensive rejuvenation of the entire face. The liquid gel provides a subtle volumising effect across the complexion, counteracting generalised volume loss and lifting sagging skin.
By boosting collagen production, the serum continues to reduce moderate to pronounced signs of ageing over time, including fine lines, wrinkles and lax skin. Only two injection points are required for each side of the face, which reduces patient discomfort and minimises side effects, such as bruising and swelling. After 3 GOURI treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, your skin will appear younger and healthier with results lasting up to a year.
