04 Jan Exploring PRP Therapy
Most people aren’t familiar with PRP Therapy but we wholeheartedly believe this needs to change! It’s an innovative treatment option that effectively harnesses your body’s own ability to regenerate its cells. Over the last 50 years, this procedure has become much more accessible and, if you want to learn more about it, you’re certainly in the right place.
What Is PRP Therapy?
PRP Therapy, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, is a cutting-edge, natural way to rejuvenate your skin and it’s a treatment option that we offer at The Lovely Clinic. It uses your own blood cells to target a range of common concerns, including UV damage, loose skin, uneven texture and discolouration.
This procedure is much less invasive than it sounds. We simply need to take a small amount of your blood and then we spin it in a centrifuge, which allows us to harvest platelet rich plasma directly from your own blood. After this, we inject it into the areas of your skin you wish to target.
It can also be used to stimulate hair growth but we think it’s important to note that PRP Therapy can’t be used on areas that are entirely bald. This treatment offers incredible rejuvenation abilities but follicles that have stopped producing hair entirely sadly cannot be stimulated. Its perfect for people with thinning hair, or alopecia areata. PRP is also useful for people who dont want to have traditional dermal fillers or botulinum toxin, or those who prefer the idea of doing something more natural to improve the skin.
At TLC we have two state of the art centrifuges which separate the PRP from the rest of the blood; the gold standard Angel and the world class Arthrex devices. The Angel device is so advanced the percentage of white and red blood cells in the PRP can be changed according to need, and the cells are separated using light.
Other Frequently Asked Questions
There are several questions that spring to mind when researching PRP and we’ve collated them here.
Can PRP be preventative?
PRP is often described as a preventative treatment as it cant stop the formation of fine lines but it can slow them and is still used to treat them once they have appeared.
Which areas of the body can be treated?
Effectively anywhere! It works very well on the eye area, neck, décolletage and hands. In addition, it can be used for the O-Shot in the vagina or penis and to treat hair loss in both men and women.
Does PRP hurt?
PRP therapy isn’t entirely pain-free but it is manageable. Your blood is taken in the same way as it would be for a blood test, so you can expect a little pinch or scratch. If your scalp is being injected, you’ll have a local anaesthetic injection or topical anaesthetic prior to your treatment to make sure it’s a comfortable experience. For mesotherapy, no anaesthesia is required. For the O-Shot, topical anaesthesia will be used.
Should I go for stem cell treatment or PRP therapy?
PRP is sufficient for most people but if another option would be better for you in any sense, this will be determined during the consultation process.
