The notion of using surgical sutures to pin sagging skin seems obvious, but it took until 1987 for the first APTOS Thread Lift to be performed. The brainchild of the esteemed plastic surgeon, Dr Malen Sulamanidze, APTOS threads have since evolved to become one of the most effective anti-ageing treatments around. In fact, the lifting power of the adapted sutures has proven so popular and successful that many other companies have since developed their own versions, notably, Nordyx threads. Before deciding which treatment is right for you, it is important to examine the differences between the two treatments and their benefits.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
APTOS Threads are medical-grade sutures that are inserted under the skin to reposition sagging tissue. Although just over the width of a hair, the threads are incredibly strong and provide a striking lifting effect. During an APTOS Thread Lift, the skin is pulled taut, smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles and correcting the appearance of lax skin.
Like most surgical sutures, these threads are naturally broken down over time. During this process, the body’s healing response is activated, which increases collagen production. This structural protein plumps the skin, firming the tissue long after the threads have dissolved. The latest generation of APTOS threads contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that attracts and retains water. In addition to the anti-ageing benefits, this extra ingredient reduces the downtime post procedure by calming the skin.

How Does The Treatment Work?
Like Aptos, Nordyx Threads are made from polycaprolactone and polylactic-acid (PLACL), a hybrid material with long-lasting effects. Primary lifting is immediately visible post-treatment as sagging skin is pulled into a more youthful position. Like the APTOS Thread Lift, collagen production is stimulated as the body breaks down the sutures, prolonging the lifting effect long after they are gone. Angiogenesis is also triggered, improving blood circulation through the formation of new capillaries. This facilitates the transportation of nutrients to cells, which helps to maintain a healthy glow.
Nordyx offers a variety of products that cater to different skin needs. Lifting threads vary in length to suit different facial regions and may contain bidirectional barbs to prevent movement within the tissue. Their strength provides a dramatic lift for around 12 months before they are naturally broken down by the body. PLACL mono threads can be placed in a mesh-like pattern to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or to lift sunken areas, such as the tear troughs. They are ideal for treating the delicate skin surrounding the eyes. Double screw threads can be used to redefine features by ‘shrink-wrapping’ the skin, giving the illusion of additional volume. Typically used to add definition to the lips, cheeks and jawline, this product can be used as a substitute for Dermal Fillers.
