Understanding Injectables: What Are Neurotoxins And Dermal Fillers?

Cosmetic procedures were once reserved for famous faces but the development of affordable injectable treatments opened up the world of aesthetics to the general public. For many, Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers are now as commonplace as haircuts and dental appointments and you’d be hard pushed to find someone who has never heard of these treatments. However, despite their newfound popularity, many people are unaware of how Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers actually work and cannot differentiate between the two.

The Difference Between Neurotoxins And Dermal Fillers

Anti-wrinkle Injections are made from neurotoxins that impair the function of nerve tissue. When injected into the skin, the substance blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that instruct muscles to contract. As muscles relax, signs of ageing are improved in two ways: existing fine lines and wrinkles appear smoothed away and inhibited muscle contraction prevents new creases from forming.

The injections take effect after around 2 weeks and last for approximately 6 months but this often varies from person to person. Going beyond treating signs of ageing, Neurotoxin Injections can correct a gummy smile, slim the face and treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Dermal Fillers

Although Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers both treat signs of ageing, they do so in different ways. Anti-wrinkle Injections reduce muscle activity, whereas Dermal Fillers restore lost volume in problem areas with a solution containing hyaluronic acid. The soft, injectable gel can be used to smooth away lines or enhance natural features, for example, by creating fuller-looking lips.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance produced by the body, which helps to lubricate the joints and other tissues. Its capacity to hold 1000 times its weight in water deeply hydrates and plumps up the skin.

Results from Dermal Filler Injections are immediate and last between 3 months and 2 years, depending on the area being treated. Fillers can redefine the shape of the face and create a more balanced profile. Importantly, treatments can be reversed if you decide to change your look.

Although dark circles beneath the eyes are often attributed to tiredness, they can form for a variety of reasons, such as ageing and genetics. Small amounts of Dermal Filler restore lost volume around the eyes, creating a fresh and healthy look.
